Responsible, circular solutions for wind turbine blades. All wind energy stakeholders, including states, the federal government, companies, suppliers, and consumers, can fuel the responsible, sustainable development
The massive offshore wind turbine blade that broke and spread fiberglass and foam debris across Nantucket beaches was one of several recent failures of blades made by GE Vernova – a top US wind
The failure of one of Vineyard Wind''s turbine blades has shut down the ambitious offshore energy project and littered Nantucket''s beaches with debris. But what do we know so far regarding the cause of the failure?
A Vineyard Wind turbine blade broke over the weekend, scattering debris into the Atlantic and prompting an investigation by the manufacturer and federal officials. The offshore wind energy company, which
"Most of China''s coastal areas are in typhoon zones, and if there is no wind turbine that can withstand typhoons, it can be said that wind power has little future in China,"
A roof turbine vent is a type of exhaust vent that plays a key role in controlling the temperature and moisture levels in your attic. It''s made up of a bulb-shaped fan with propeller-like blades that spin when the wind blows,
A preliminary analysis of the Vineyard Wind turbine that failed has found that, although the fundamental design of the machine''s 351-foot blades is sound, a manufacturing flaw caused one of
Then, how much power can be captured from the wind? This question has been answered in a paper published in 1919 by a German physicist Albert Betz who proved that the maximum fraction of the upstream kinetic energy K that can be
Approximately 15 miles south of Nantucket on Saturday, July 13, one of the blades on a non-operational wind turbine that Vineyard Wind was testing broke at its base, scattering debris into the ocean below as the blade
Wind turbines work on a simple principle: instead of using electricity to make wind—like a fan—wind turbines use wind to make electricity. Wind turns the propeller-like blades of a turbine around a rotor, which spins a generator,

The failure of one of Vineyard Wind's turbine blades has shut down the ambitious offshore energy project and littered Nantucket's beaches with debris. But what do we know so far regarding the cause of the failure? Vineyard Wind first disclosed the incident at 3:41 p.m. on Monday with an email announcement regarding an "offshore incident."
Link Copied! Giant wind turbine blades for the Vineyard Winds project are stacked on racks in New Bedford, Massachusetts. The massive offshore wind turbine blade that broke and spread fiberglass and foam debris across Nantucket beaches this week was one of several recent failures of blades made by GE Vernova – a top US wind turbine manufacturer.
A preliminary analysis of the Vineyard Wind turbine that failed has found that, although the fundamental design of the machine’s 351-foot blades is sound, a manufacturing flaw caused one of them to snap as it spun over the Atlantic Ocean earlier this month.
Parts of the damaged blade began washing ashore on Monday and Nantucket shut down several south facing beaches to clean up the broken foam and fiberglass shards. There's no word yet on what caused the turbine to break. The federal government ordered the wind farm to shut down until further notice.
“It is clear that major (manufacturers) have all faced blade breakages,” Mukherjee said in an email. The failures were caused by issues such as design flaws and manufacturing lapses by contractors, he said. As the global wind energy industry grows, the size of the turbines themselves are also growing.
Nantucket Current has confirmed this photo of the broken turbine approximately 15 miles off the southwest coast of the island. Vineyard Wind's GE turbines reach 853 feet in the air at the tip of the blade, each nearly as tall as the Eiffel Tower.
